Meeting Chinggis Khaan's Offspring

Remote Mongolia, a nation bordered by China and Russia, is known for its vast, rugged expanses and its nomadic people. Its capital, Ulaanbaatar, centres around Chinggis Khaan Square, named for the notorious founder of the 13th- and 14th-century Mongol Empire. At c. 1,5 million square kilometres, Mongolia is the 19th largest and one of the most sparsely populated independent countries in the world, with a population of only c. 3 million people. Approximately 30 % of the population are nomadic or semi-nomadic. The majority of its population are Buddhists and the non-religious population is the second largest group. Ethnic Mongols account for about 95 % of the population and consist of Khalkha and other groups, all distinguished primarily by dialects of the Mongol language.
